Disability, Accessibility, and Archives

Archival boxes on metal shelves

Our history

Founded in 2019, the Society of American Archivists’ Accessibility & Disability Section has accomplished a lot in a short time. ADS was honored by an SAA Council Resolution in 2020 for launching the Archivists at Home document. The section has advocated for inclusive interviewing practices and maintains the Guidelines for Accessible Archives for People with Disabilities.

Our committment

We are committed to being an inclusive community in which people with disabilities and allies can learn from each other, share resources, and promote accessibility and disability representation across the archival field.

Our content

On this blog you will find various ways to engage with the community. We post about advocacy, allyship, member stories, information from the ADS leadership team, and opportunities for participation. There are also articles, case studies, and resources listed as well as a round-up of goings on in the accessibility and disability community.
